Ann Li beat an unwell Iga Swiatek after Swiatek retired in the third set of their Madrid Open match. Li was leading 7-6(4), 2-6, 3-0 when the match ended, and the win gave her her best WTA 1000 result. It was also her first Top 10 victory since the 2022 Miami Open. Swiatek was the 2024 Madrid champion.
